Hope And Raincoats: A Poetry Extravaganza

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

Join us for an afternoon of new poetry from some of the region’s foremost writers.  This fresh and exciting work will be in response to the Journeys with “The Waste land” exhibition which itself is inspired by the T.S. Eliot poem “The Waste Land”.

Featured poets include Matt Black, Nigel Hutchinson, Liz Jolly, Andrea Mbarushimana, Anthony Owen, and Naomi Shihab Nye.

*******************************

nature speaks clearly
captures feelings, speculates
suggests appearance

a difficult poem
a vintage relationship
this snapshot wasteland

conscious, unconscious
surrealist tranquility
journeys or promise

cathartic colour
maximum sea and sky
Kent coast making sense

oil on pagan flames
crisis of natural forms
rituals and wrath

watercolour air
shrouded cathedral
smoke lit up by fire

eerie moon compels
looming waves in the distance
light of a strange sun

I want a jar she said
this gift is Greek to him
translation hanging

a thousand year ghost
grant her a golden voice
not withered dust

Nigel Hutchinson
